Southampton is such a fab city to walk around. For this one, we chose a walk from Woolston to Weston Shore and included an independent coffee spot for a morning walk, and a dinner option for the late-afternoon wanderers.
SO19 9SY For the walk and coffee stop, we parked up at Centenary Plaza, it’s 2 hours free parking in their underground car park.
Coffe stop at Mettricks
We stopped by one of our fave local independent coffee spots, Mettricks in Woolston has a nice atmosphere inside, as well as an outdoor area with views of the water.
They do a good brunch, and roast their coffee beans in Portswood. As it was the season, we grabbed a pumpkin spice latte and hot choccie takeaway for a walk. If you want to brew your own speciality coffee at home, or grab a present for your coffee-loving friends or family, you can even purchase a fragrant bag to take with you.
Woolston to Weston
From Mettricks in Woolston, you can walk 5/10 mins through a residential street to get to Southampton Sailing Club which overlooks Southampton Water and the huge cruise ships across the way in the city centre.
There’s a great wide pathway running along the shoreline of Weston shore, so perfect for kids on bikes, etc. to sit and enjoy the passing yachts and boats.
For a longer walk, you could walk right along to Netley and Royal Victoria Country Park, hard to miss from Weston shore as the top of the chapel in Royal Vic Park can be seen over the tree tops.
Roast dinner at Quayside
A Southampton Sunday roast with stunning waterside views at Quayside
This Woolston spot is on the right side of Southampton Water for the best sunset around with a meal and drink with the sunset setting behind Ocean Village every evening. This spot overlooks Ocean Village, the Itchen Bridge, St Mary’s, passing yachts, and in the distance the big cruise liners like the Disney cruise ship that we spotted.
They have recently started up Sunday roasts with a new chef and we weren’t disappointed, the flavours were spot on, and portion sizes were huge! Including the kids’ versions of the roasts. They have an inside and outside seating area and with the unpredictable weather, we went for inside with the modern light interior and of course large open windows to keep your waterside view whilst dining. The staff was nice and friendly and it’s a great family-run spot.
The adult chicken roast is £17.95, the beef roast is £18.95, and pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese are a fiver each.
