A walk for any season of the year, enjoyed in autumn and again in spring. This mile walk was another tick off the many walks we discovered on the free New Forest Walks app.

Boldre village walk

Starting at the Red Lion pub, kids and dog in tow we headed out on the beautiful blue sky day and took in some great landscapes and diverse scenes on the walk. Many a woodland we passed through, all with a varied look with their different trees, spotting acorns, funghi, beechnuts and more. Butterflies a plenty, as well as grazing cows and horses in fields with some scenes passable as something from a screensaver backdrop.

We loved meandering across different points of the Lymington River with one wooden bridge and Ford in particular being a very photogenic spot as you will see. The new Forest app is great as it has a GPS to track you along the way so easy to stay on route, it also gives you points of interest to spot along the way which on this walk included a 17th-century country house and a church.

🥾The walk took us around 2 hours and was easy for a 9- and 12-year-old as well as a small pup, the red lion pub looks ideal for a post trip pint or meal but on this occasion, we saved it for another return trip. There are stiles so it’s not pushchair friendly, so get the carrier on ✔️

The Daisy Tea Garden

☕️A garden paradise for a coffee in the new Forest…The Daisy Tea Garden

Nestled on the outskirts of Brockenhurst just a short drive away from the walk start point we popped into this garden centre cafe. We really enjoyed exploring as it has a garden centre and farm shop run by Setley Ridge Farm Shop and lots of bits and bobs, plants, quirky items and corners to explore as well as the cafe. Setley Ridge is also known for its family-run vineyard.

The blooming Garden Centre and Nursery with a treasure trove of unique garden ornaments and adornments is a great spot to enjoy a coffee at the tea room. They have an indoor and outdoor area to enjoy a drink or light lunch and it’s dog friendly too. The farm shop had tons of local Hampshire produce and also had a great hamper section where you could load up a hamper with goodies as a gift.

Open daily: Monday-Friday 9am-4pm; Saturday-Sunday 9am-4:30pm
