Best family campsites in Hampshire

Hampshire has a great range of camping sites, for different budgets, and with varying levels of amenities to cater to campers’ different needs and preferences. Below are three great campsites we’ve tried ourselves and really enjoyed, listed in no particular order. We can’t wait to discover more and add extra entries to the list!

🏕️ Holmsley Campsite – New Forest

Holmsley is one of ten camping sites the owners run in the national park. It’s on an old airfield with lots of history and our fave thing about it was the kids having the rule of the site on bikes, riding around carefree in groups, a very nostalgic throwback to carefree days of kids playing in the streets. 🚲

The site was larger than expected and we comfortably secured a sport in a great quiet field by the tree line.

Loos are very clean and modern; they have three toilets and hot shower blocks across the large campsite.

There is a playground for the kids as well as plenty of space to play around, and a large shop selling loads of great items including hot drinks, slushies, and stocked up well on that New Forest ice cream for when the sun is here.

Very friendly, chatty staff too. 😉🍦

It’s a great idea to bring the bikes along as well, as it’s perfectly situated, right by the old Holmley railway line. So getting on two wheels, we headed out for a long ride before a great night’s sleep 🚲

⛺️ Stockbridge View – Stockbridge

Affordable wild-style camping in the Test Valley.

We recently stayed at this campsite for families in Stockbridge, a quick 10-15 minutes’ walk from the high street.

It’s a quiet Hampshire site with large grass pitches and easy road access; don’t think anything fancy, but just the essentials you need for an affordable camping getaway over the summer.

Prices start from £20 a night for a pitch based on two sharing. All parts of the site are a few minutes’ walk from good basic amenities like running water, toilets, showers, and a chemical disposal point.

The campsite is just a 15-minutes’ walk down a country bridleway to the bustling market town of Stockbridge Hampshire. Some of our fave there include Kudos coffee and Hoxtons as well as plenty of independents.

Great walks nearby including the Danebury Iron Age hill fort spot which is a fave of ours.

🏕️Upper Parsonage Farm – Petersfield

A Meon Valley camping adventure!

Following an invite from this great family-run business on a traditional 1,400-acre working farm, we headed into the beautiful Hampshire countryside.

We loved this quiet campsite which only has eight lovely pitches, which is brilliant for quiet family time.

Surrounded by a field with sheep, at the foot of Butser Hill, pitches include a picnic bench, each with a campfire and, another brilliant feature, a private loo with a lock for each individual pitch!

🏕️ Holden Farm – Alresford

The amazing Holden Farm Camping is just outside Winchester. The campsite is located in the South Downs national park which is an international dark sky reserve and perfect for star gazing.

A Cheriton walk in Hampshire with campsite cafe and brewery 🌳🥾☕️🚜

At the weekend we headed to the south downs area in Hampshire for a circular walk in Cheriton, an outdoor café on a working farm and brewery with brilliant pub garden.

1. Holden Farm Camping & Cafe

Our day started with a morning visit to this spot which is located around a ten minute drive from Winchester and right on the south downs way. It’s a family run farm which has a popular campsite as well as a seasonal café. We enjoyed a local river coffee with a relaxed setting overlooking the countryside scenes.

2. A 5k family friendly circular walk in Cheriton

Around six minutes drive down the road on the scenic south downs route you will find the small village of Cheriton where we went for a 5k family friendly circular walk. The village of Cheriton is near Alresford and it is a very quintessential English village with thatched cottages throughout and the river itchen running through. Our route took us through stunning countryside scenes with streams, fields, and plenty of kites flying above.

Free parking in the village or at flower pots if you are going for food/drink

3. The Flower Pots Brewery

With the walk finished up on a humid May day, refreshments were in order and this local pub known as ‘the pots’ by locals was the perfect place with it’s huge pub garden as you won’t find many in the county bigger. The brewhouse serves cask ales and beer brewed on the premises, and I’ve also spotted them on taps of many of Hampshire’s pubs so very popular. Their ales and beers are even award winning as you will see near the bar area with their framed awards adorning the walls
